Welcome to the El Dorado Writers’ Guild

The El Dorado Writers’ Guild meets every first and third Wednesday of the month at the Gold Country Retirement Community on 6041 Golden Center Court, Placerville. Meetings begin at 6:00 P.M. Membership in the El Dorado Writers’ Guild is free, and open to anyone interested in good writing.

During our meetings participants share their latest literary efforts. Some people are working on a novel, some on a memoir to share with their family, some focus on short stories, and we even have the occasional poet. Our only restrictions are: 1) no pornography; 2) nothing racist or overtly political; 3) length should not exceed approximately 2000 words. We use the workshop format for our meeting; that means the author should bring 10-12 double-spaced copies of the piece to share with the other writers. The author will read the piece out loud while the other members listen and write comments on their copy. The atmosphere is collegial and non-threatening. Our goal is for everyone to improve as a writer.

To facilitate the evaluation process, we encourage you to submit your work to this site a few days before the next meeting so other members can read it prior to the meeting. This will permit them more time to enjoy what you’ve written, and provide you with thoughtful, constructive feedback. You will find the readings for the next meeting under the “Next Meeting” tab. The “Past Meetings” tab will take you to an archive of earlier workshops.

To submit your work, simply send it to kirk@colvin.com as either an attachment (preferably as a Word document, but PDF is fine), or copy and paste it into the body of an email.

Note: keep in mind that some publications might consider putting your work on the Internet as a form of “publication,” and, therefore, might not be willing to accept that work for publication.
